Thursday was the second part of the South Iowa Cedar League volleyball tournament where Sigourney split a pair of matches, but made some history along the way.

The Savages competed in the silver bracket on Thursday in Victor after placing second at Monday’s preliminary rounds. The team won the semifinal match with Lynnville-Sully by scores of 25-20 and 25-15, but then fell to Iowa Valley in the title game. The four set bout had the Tigers winning by scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, and 25-18. In the win against the Hawks, senior libero Madelynn Hornback became just the second player in program history to eclipse 1,000 digs in a career. Additionally, her 1,004 total digs passes 2014 graduate Becca Ohland as the all time leader. The four year starter had 42 for the evening and leads the squad with 422 this fall. Other standouts from Thursday included Raegan Rozenboom with 13 kills in the two matches, Brookelyn Hemsley dished out 41 assists, and Emma Hammes recorded five blocks.

Sigourney closes the regular season 15-13 overall and 8-5 in the SICL to place sixth in the conference. The Savages will start up class 1A regional play on Monday hosting Tri-County (3-23).
