Livestock producers who suffered losses due to insufficient access to processing facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic still have time to apply for an assistance program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Pandemic Livestock Indemnity Program (PLIP) provides financial relief for those losses and costs associated with depopulation due to COVID-19 for swine, chicken, or turkey producers. The USDA’s Farm Service Agency began accepting PLIP applications on July 20th and the original deadline of September 17th was recently extended to October 12th. PLIP payments are to support producers of eligible livestock depopulated from March 1 through December 26, 2020. For more information on the program, visit here.
