Like a carbon copy of last week’s meet in Fort Madison, the boys teams for Washington and Columbus Community nabbed first place finishes at Mount Pleasant on Tuesday in a large school/small school split. The Demon girls also took home gold to make it a clean sweep for Washington.

The Demon boys managed first out of six with 50 points to beat out second place Oskaloosa with 59. Lance Sobaski continues to best the field with another first place run of 16:25, 21 seconds faster than the second place competitor. Micah Rees cracked the top three in third with a time of 17:08. Drew Horak was ninth (18:31), Tyler Alderton 10th (18:42), and Cameron Vongpanya 27th (19:53). The Demon girls lost by one point last week, but they made sure history did not repeat itself with 39 points last night to dominate second place Oskaloosa with 68. All five scored runners cracked the top 11 including Quincy Griffis fourth (21:09), Kendall Hinrichsen sixth (21:38), Lauren Horak eighth (21:54), Isabella Lujan 10th (22:04), and Taylor Bartholomew 11th (22:08). 

The Columbus boys’ won their second meet in a row with 37 points in the small class division to best Mediapolis’ 84. Freddy Vergara paced the team in second (17:31), Isaac Acosta fourth (18:33), Mason Hills-Carrier seventh (18:57), Tim Hills-Carrier ninth (19:26), and Damian Vergara 15th (20:46). The Wildcat girls were second out of three with 41 points compared to Mediapolis’ 37. A pair of runners finished top five in Ariana Vergara fourth (23:40) and Quinn Yotter fifth (24:24). 

Other area boys scores included Winfield-Mt. Union sixth and WACO seventh. Top individuals included WMU’s Gabe Hemsworth sixth (18:36), WACO’s Wyatt Dennis 11th (20:05), and Lone Tree’s Jadin Grieser 43rd (23:12). No other area girls program had a team score, but the Warriors’ Hannah Dennis was 10th (25:22), the Lions’ Vivian Zaruba 17th (26:42), and the Wolves’ Olivia Martinez 27th (31:15).
