The Hillcrest Academy cross country team enters the fray tonight when they travel to a large meet at Center Point Urbana. Last time the Ravens were on the course was a week ago at North English at the EV Invite. Hillcrest highlights included Leah Bontrager’s first career varsity individual meet title in a time of 24:07 and top 10 finishes on the boys side for Collin Miller in fourth and Micah Gerber in seventh. Raven head coach Marty Gingerich talked with KCII Sports last Tuesday about his team’s performance at Knoll Ridge Golf Course. “Early on it looked like Leah could have that race. She didn’t run her fastest race but she got the win. It was a smart race. It’s nice to put that feather in your cap that you have won a varsity race. Morgyn Nafziger was our second runner. She had a 40 second improvement over her time at Fairfield from the week before. Julia Boller also ran well as the third girls runner of the night. On the boys side Collin Miller continues to run well and race smart. Micah Gerber also continues to improve.”

Joining the Ravens tonight at CPU will be No. 15 Anamosa, Cascade, East Buchanan, Edgewood-Colesburg, Isaac Newton Christian Academy, No. 10 Mount Vernon, No. 9 North Linn, Springville, and the homestanding No. 11 Stormin’ Pointers. Action starts tonight at 5p.m. and continues into the evening.
