A season’s worth of stats is what Winfield-Mt. Union’s Cam Buffington racked up on Friday in Winfield-Mt. Union’s season opening 84-34 win over Moravia.

The sophomore put up video game like numbers and I’m talking Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl type stuff. The dual threat quarterback completed 11 of 15 passes for 288 yards and six touchdowns while adding four rushing scores on 20 carries for 160 yards. He accounted for 90% of their yards for an offense that absolutely exploded in the second quarter. Trailing 12-8 after one, the Wolves scored seven times in the second to open up a 56-34 lead at half and they continued to tack on in the final two quarters. The team had 499 yards of total offense and Abram Edwards showed off his big play ability with four catches for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Caleb Giese hauled in five receptions for 109 yards and two scores. The defense was led by Edwards with eight tackles.

Head Coach Scott McCarty broke down the monstrous second quarter. “We went three and out twice in the first quarter and our only score was on the defensive side. I felt like we got it figured out in the second quarter. We got into a better rhythm with play calling and getting our guys into a position to make plays. That is exactly what they did. We were able to throw and run with all eight guys really executing their job.”

WMU starts up the year 1-0 and they host Iowa Valley (1-1) on Friday for homecoming.
