Four members of the Hillcrest Academy softball team were recognized by the Southeast Iowa Superconference for their work on the diamond this summer.

Raven senior Madeline Fox was named first team all-conference as an infielder. Fox, who spent most of the season at second base, hit .415 to lead Hillcrest. She had 22 total hits, 11 runs scored and six RBI.

Hillcrest junior Esther Hughes was a second team selection as an outfielder. Hughes hit .308 with 20 total hits, eight runs scored and six RBI.

Junior Evelyn Gerber and eighth grader Malia Yoder were both honorable mention selections for the conference. Gerber hit .400 for the year with 16 total hits and eight runs scored. Yoder hit .314 with 16 total hits, 11 RBI and seven runs scored. She also worked 33 innings in the circle with an 0-5 record and 7.28 ERA. This week Hillcrest head coach Kent Blossom talked about the Ravens all-conference picks. “Madeline Fox came to us from Clear Creek-Amana and gave us a tremendous effort all year, not only in her approach at the plate, but also her composure and versatility, to give us innings at second base and in the outfield. We knew Esther Hughes was going to be a leader for us, especially in the outfield, just in terms of her speed and athleticism, she has the ability to make some outstanding plays and at the top of our order as a lead-off hitter. You look at Evelyn Gerber and where he stats were last year, to make the significant improvements we saw this season. Hitting over .400, tremendous effort for her and defensively it was important to have her steady influence in left field. Malia Yoder is one of the best in the conference at short stop and for her age. You look forward to seeing her be that staple for us on the infield, in the circle and at the plate.”

The Ravens finished the season with an 0-23 overall record.
