The Washington County Engineer’s Office has received a grant to help replace one of its dump trucks.

County Engineer Jacob Thorius informed the Washington County Board of Supervisors this week that he had applied for a Volkswagen diesel emission grant this spring. This week he was notified that they have been awarded up to 30% of the cost to replace their dump truck, or $60,000. Thorius says they are planning on replacing a 20-year-old truck, and the board approved an Iowa Department of Transportation agreement to receive the grant. The board also approved a personnel change request to hire Tim Kleese as assistant maintenance superintendent as the current assistant John Wagner transitions to the maintenance superintendent to replace JP VanSickle who is retiring this fall.
