The Washington City Council approved a quote for patching on North 4th Avenue this summer.

The council was presented a quote at their most recent meeting of $18,305 from DeLong Construction to perform concrete patching on areas of the road between East 7th and 10th streets adjacent to Stewart Elementary. City Administrator Brent Hinson commented that this would be the appropriate time as DeLong Construction is already hired to construct additional parking areas at the school this summer, “Then we’ve got pretty good pavement on 4th all the way from basically Washington up to 11th, we’ve got good pavement on 4th which is a major, major route. We’ll have more work to do in the future because we’ve got a big water main project on South 4th that’s planned a few years out on the capitol improvement plan that then will include resurfacing all the way down to Van Buren, because that street, the South 4th, is not in good shape, as far as that goes.”

Mayor Jaron Rosien commented that this will also tie in well with the safe routes to school sidewalk work that the city completed on North 4th Avenue. The city will be paying for this work out of the road use tax/street maintenance fund and will pay the school district and have them pay DeLong as they are relying on their competitive bid process for the pricing.
