The Southeast Iowa Super Conference track meet in Wayland last night saw two divisions collide and plenty of area athletes being crowned conference champions.

While the north and south divisions both competed, the results were divided up separately and Highland had the best area girls finish in third out of nine with 80 points while Pekin won the north with 195. The Huskies had six top three finishes led by freshman Sarah Burton winning the north division long jump in 16’0.5’’. WACO found success in the south division also placing third out of seven with 79.5 points and West Burlington won with 212. Molly McLaughlin was a champ in the 100m hurdles (17.31) and was also apart of the victorious shuttle hurdle relay team (1:14). Winfield-Mt finished sixth in the north division team standings (67), Columbus seventh (31), Lone Tree eighth (26), and Hillcrest Academy ninth (6). Other individual champions included Winfield-Mt. Union’s Kyndal Townsley in the 100m hurdles (17.99), WMU’s Jobey Malone in the shot put (36’10.25’’), the Wolves’ shuttle hurdle (1:15), and Lone Tree’s Kasey Chown in the high jump (4’6’’).

The Columbus Community boys nabbed third place in the north with 114 points and Wapello won with 150. Triston Miller was a two-time champ in the 110m hurdles (16.47) and high jump (5’10’’). Isaac Acosta was the first to cross the finish line in the 800m (2:07). WMU finished sixth in the standings with 56 points, Highland seventh (52), Lone Tree eighth (45), Hillcrest Academy ninth (24), and WACO was fifth in the south (78). The most exciting finish of the night might have been in the 400m hurdles when the Ravens’ Aaron Hershberger had a last second pass to win the event in 59.01 and the senior broke down the race. “I went out way too hard at the beginning, but on the last corner I figured it was now or never. I really kicked it in and the guy in front of me slowed down so I was able to pass him at the end. It was a beautiful finish.” Other area first place events included WACO’s Simeon Reichenbach in the 110m hurdles (16.35) and the Warriors’ shuttle hurdle relay (1:06).
