The kickoff to the 2021 soccer season was a success for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys Tuesday as they shut out visiting Mediapolis 3-0. The Hawks got things started early with Ethan Trimpe finding Zeus Fugate in the 9th minute and Fugate beating the keeper to give Mid-Prairie the lead. The Golden Hawks would double the advantage in the 26th minute when Owen Trimpe found the back of the net on an assist from Gunnar Gingerich, leaving the Hawks with a 2-0 lead at intermission. Fugate added an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute for insurance and the Mid-Prairie defense continued to lock down the Bulldogs. Golden Hawk goalkeeper Keaton Graber turned in a clean sheet stopping four MEPO shots on goal. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 1-0 on the season, Mediapolis falls to 2-2.
