Seven Washington High School students received a Division I rating at the district individual speech contest at Winfield-Mt. Union High School last weekend and are advancing to state.

Nine events have qualified overall for state: Quinn Wubbena and Hannah Rees with solo musical theatre, Mathew Osborn with poetry, Jenna Messer with public address, Molly Klinzman with storytelling and literary program, Keegan Colby with review and acting, and Brynn Beenblossom with prose. Emma Kaye also performed at the district contest in prose and after dinner speaking. The Washington team will perform for a panel of three Iowa High School Speech Association judges at Winfield-Mt. Union on March 13th for a shot at receiving All-State nominations. Though the All-State Festival won’t be held this year due to COVID-19.
