It was another winter carrying on the strong tradition that is Keota boys’ basketball and it was a monumental one for their head coach.

Dan Stout has been the head man for the Eagles since 2002 and on February 2nd in a win over rival Sigourney he picked up his 300th career win. While it is an individual award, Stout is quick to give the credit to others.

“This just means we have had some really good players come through our program. When I started out we were struggling for just four or five wins, but we really turned that around in the mid-2000s. It is neat to look back and see that we have six conference championships since I started and hopefully we have many more great years in us. This accomplishment is all about the kids.” Behind every accomplished head coach is a reliable assistant coach and that is what Stout has with Larry Lyle. “Coach Lyle has been with me for all 19 years and I think that has been huge for our program. We have done it the right way over the years and have had a lot of success in a great conference. It has been a lot of fun for us.”

Throughout his 19 seasons Stout has amassed 304 wins to just 135 losses that averages out to a 16-7 record each year. The most successful season came in 2013-14 when Keota went 26-2 and qualified for the Class 1A State Tournament. This season, Stout led the Eagles to their second consecutive 20 win year including a district title game appearance last week.
