Two class 2A wrestlers from the KCII listening area made their way to the podium at this weekend’s state wrestling tournament in Des Moines. The top finish of any area wrestler came from Columbus’ Lane Scorpil. After suffering a quarterfinal setback, the Wildcat junior rolled through the backside of the bracket, winning four straight matches to close out his tournament and take home third place. In the consolation bracket Scorpil pinned Caelan Oakes of Southeast Valley, Osvaldo Ocampo of Sheldon, South O’Brien and Carson Less of West Delaware before avenging his earlier tournament loss with a 10-6 decision over Tucker Stangel of Osage.

Mid-Prairie’s Cael Garvey finished in eighth place at 195lbs. After a quarterfinal match loss by fall to Jacob Reicks of New Hampton Turkey Valley, Garvey came back with a pin of Nathan Keating of Anamosa to keep his tournament alive. From there, he dropped matches to Brayden Smith of South Tama and Mason Askelsen of Ballard to close things out.

Other class 2A competitors from the KCII listening area included Ayden Frazer of Washington at 182lbs, Ben Meader and Josh Wallington of Mid-Prairie at 182lbs and 220lbs respectively and Chance Malone of Columbus at 285lbs.
