Friday was a busy day on the mat in Des Moines for class 2A wrestlers from the KCII listening area. Washington’s Ayden Frazer came back after splitting a pair of day one matches and fell to Kennan Tyler of Decorah in consolation action by 11-5 decision to end his time in Des Moines.

For the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks, junior Cael Garvey fell out of the championship side of the bracket in the quarterfinals with a loss to Jacob Reicks of New Hampton Turkey Valley by fall. Garvey rebounded to pin Nathan Keating of Anamosa before dropping a major decision to Brayden Smith of South Tama by 14-5 score. Garvey will wrestle Saturday for seventh place against Mason Askelsen of Ballard. At 220lbs for the Golden Hawks Josh Wallington dropped a second round consolation match to Easton Fleshman of West Lyon by 6-1 score to end his tournament.

For the Columbus Wildcats Lane Scorpil at 113lbs suffered his first loss of the tournament, dropping a quarterfinal matchup to Tucker Stangel of Osage by fall. Scorpil has since rolled through the consolation side of the tournament scoring falls over Caelan Oakes of Southeast Valley and Osvaldo Ocampo of South O’Brien. Scorpil will meet Carson Less of West Delaware Saturday in the consolation semifinals. At 285lbs Chance Malone’s tournament came to an end Friday for Columbus. After falling in the quarterfinals to Jordan Ver Meer of West Lyon by 6-2 decision, Malone was eliminated by Keean Kamerling of Mount Vernon by 3-0 decision.
