The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams are back at home Friday when they welcome the West Branch Bears to Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Golden Hawk girls are 9-9 on the season and 8-8 in the River Valley Conference after a 43-38 loss to Wilton on Tuesday. In that game, Mid-Prairie was led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 16 points and Myah Lugar’s 13 points. On the season, Nonnenmann leads the Hawks with 14 points and seven rebounds per game. Amara Jones has the team lead with four assists and three steals per night.

West Branch comes into the contest with a record of 13-1 overall and in the RVC. The Bears are ranked No. 3 in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Last time out, the Bears beat No. 11 West Liberty 46-39 with future Bradley Brave Sasha Koenig putting up 28 points. On the season, West Branch is led by Koenig at 22 points, five assists and three steals per game. Delaynie Luneckas leads the Bears on the glass at nine boards per night. These two teams met in West Branch January 8th with the Bears taking a 66-29 win.

The Mid-Prairie boys enter play with a mark of 10-6 overall, 10-4 in the RVC, second in the south. The Hawks were a winner at Wilton Tuesday 61-50 with Carter Harmsen scoring 19 and Ethan Kos 16. For the season, the Hawks are led by Harmsen at 19 points and seven rebounds per game. Jack Pennington is the team leader at four assists and two steals per night.

West Branch is 13-1 overall and in the River Valley, leaders of the south. West Branch is ranked fifth in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Associated Press. The Bears beat West Liberty on Tuesday 57-32 with Gavin Hirerseman scoring 13 and 11 points each for Jeff Bowie and Simon Palmer. On the year, the Bears are led by Bowie at 14 points and seven rebounds per night. Palmer also pulls down seven boards a night to go along with a team best three assists. West Branch scored a come from behind win over Mid-Prairie in January 44-41.
