Last week, Governor Kim Reynolds issued a proclamation lifting the restrictions on the number of spectators at high school athletic events while still requiring face masks.

Though that opens the door to unlimited fans in the stands, the Mid-Prairie School District isn’t ready to go that far. Superintendent Mark Schneider says the school board has approved a “compromised” spectator attendance policy, “Mid-Prairie’s policy going forward, until there’s another proclamation, is that in an effort to try to maintain social distancing, we’re going to open it up to four tickets, four people per athlete, per coach, per student manager, and also allow siblings to come.”

Schneider says the up to four-person-per-participant-plus-sibling limitation applies to the visiting team’s fans as well. He says even with the new restrictions there will be challenges to social distancing at high-interest games that attract more fans. Still, Schneider says the school won’t be “policing” the stands for social distancing.
