The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams are on the road Friday when they take on the West Branch Bears. The Golden Hawk girls come into the game at 5-5 on the year, 5-4 in the River Valley Conference, after a 47-45 loss to the Wilton Beavers in Wellman on Tuesday. Phelan Hostetler led Mid-Prairie in the loss with 15 points. For the season, Mid-Prairie’s scoring leader is Maddie Nonnenmann at 12 points per game. She also has a team best seven boards per contest. Amara Jones leads the team with four assists per game and Myah Lugar has three steals per outing.

West Branch comes into the game with an 8-1 mark, leading the River Valley South. They are ranked No. 3 in the latest class 2A poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Bears have won five in a row including a 51-40 win at No. 9 West Liberty on Tuesday. Taya Young led the Bears in the win with 16 points. For the season, West Branch is led by Sasha Koenig at 22 points per game. She also leads the team with four assists per contest. Delaynie Luneckas is best on the team with eight rebounds, three steals and four blocked shots per game. These two teams met twice last year with the Bears winning 63-25 on their home floor and 74-27 in Wellman.

The Mid-Prairie boys come into play with an overall record of 5-1, and 5-0 in the River Valley, winners of five-in-a-row, the latest a 61-44 win over Wilton on Tuesday where Carter Harmsen posted a game high 33 points. For the season, Harmsen is the leader at 25 points and eight rebounds per game. Jack Pennington leads the Golden Hawks at six assists and three steals per game.

West Branch comes into the night perfeCt at 8-0 on the season and in the conference. West Branch beat up on West Libety last time out 57-26. Simon Palmer leads the Bears scoring 17 points per game. Jeff Bowie has pulled down a team best seven boards per contest. Thomas Gould leads West Branch at three assists and three steals per night. These two teams met twice a season ago with each winning on the others home floor, the Bears 57-55 in overtime in Wellman and Mid-Prairie 47-41 on the Bears senior night.
