Louisa County Conservation is inviting area residents to reduce their plastic footprint on the environment during an event this Saturday at the Langwood Education Center near Wapello.

Naturalist Laura Semken says she’ll be sharing ideas from 3-5 p.m. to reduce the amount of plastic that’s discarded and ends up in landfills,” I thought it would be fun to get together and talk about ways we reduce the amount of waste in our lives, the amount of stuff we throw away. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to recycle plastic. So, I discovered a recipe for creating your own laundry detergent and it will help reduce the amount of plastic waste in your home really quickly and it’s just a feel-good kind of thing.”

Semken says participants will also learn how to make their own dish soap, get recipes on homemade chocolate sauces and baking mixes, and while pre-registration is not required for the free family event, an RSVP will help determine the amount of supplies needed.

Semken says masks are required for this indoor event. Though not for those coming out early to hike the Langwood trails which will be open from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
