A Washington County elected official returned home from his deployment with the U.S. Army Reserve last week, giving quite the Christmas present to his family.

County Attorney, Major John Gish came home on December 22nd from his assignment to the 311th Sustainment Command in Kuwait. Gish had been away from home since March, and was expected to return to Iowa in early 2021, so his return came as a big surprise to his children Kaylee and Brennan whose reactions were caught on camera by Gish’s wife Nicole. During his deployment Gish continued to review investigations and criminal prosecutions, provide legal advice to county boards and officers, interviewed applicants for employment in the office, hold regular meetings with staff, respond to emails, and speak with crime victims.

Gish thanks his family and friends for their ongoing support and assistance, the Attorney’s Office staff for their hard work and flexibility, and the many others who offered their encouragement. Gish says he was happy to be home earlier than expected in time to spend Christmas with his family. He anticipates returning to the Attorney’s Office on February 8th.
