Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union met up on Friday for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader and the two schools managed a split.

The WMU girls kept their unblemished record intact with a 37-22 victory. The defensive battle was 14-12 at the break in favor of the Wolves and they started to get some cushion in the second half with a 23-16 advantage after three and outscoring the Arrows 14-6 in the fourth to seal the win. Wapello (2-4) shot just 19% from the floor and the Wolves out rebounded them 43-24. Bradie Buffington came off the bench to record 12 points and 12 rebounds while Farrah Nelson added 10 boards.

The first quarter was the difference in the nightcap with the Indians (5-0) jumping out to a 20-3 lead after eight minutes. The Wolves offense settled in and kept it even the rest of the way, but could never breakthrough in a 59-40 defeat. Cam Buffington led the Wolves’ offense with 17 points and nine rebounds. Abram Edwards had 11 points, eight boards, four assists, and three blocks.

The WMU girls improve to 8-0 and the boys are now 2-2. Both squads close out the first half tomorrow hosting Louisa-Muscatine.
