A fire on a farm northeast of Ainsworth Sunday night was not your typical fire. The Ainsworth Fire Department was on scene, but mostly for observance and training. Ainsworth Fire Chief Waylon Schultz says the owner had an empty house he wanted burned down so firefighters were on hand to make sure the fire stayed under control, “We did a little bit of training as far as hose handling and things like that, protecting his outbuildings for him. And then also as far as watching how the smoke was coming out of the building and things like that after he started the fire, we can teach the newer guys things just from watching the smoke and location of the fire in the house.” While Sunday’s fire wasn’t a full-scale training session,  Schultz says it was still a great way for firefighters to learn, “Live fire is really the best training we can get and we’re not able to do near enough of it just because of not acquiring enough old structures to do it.” Schultz says that live training is invaluable.
