No official trick or treat times have been set in the City of Washington this Halloween as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, but Mayor Jaron Rosien has made some recommendations. Rosien tells KCII News that he is encouraging citizens to “make decisions in their own best interest and in the best interest of others by following state guidelines” for low, moderate, and high-risk activities. Residents who choose to hand out treats should turn on their porch lights on Halloween night.

The Centers for Disease Control lists low-risk activities as decorating pumpkins with members of your household, doing a Halloween scavenger hunt where children are given lists of Halloween-themed things to look for while walking outdoors admiring decorations at a distance, or having a virtual costume contest. A moderate-risk activity would be participating in a one-way trick-or-treating where families can grab and go pre-wrapped goodie bags while maintaining social distance. High risk activities include traditional trick-or-treating going door to door or attending crowded costume parties indoors. For more activity guidelines click here.
