A special guest attended the most recent meeting of the Lone Tree School Board in mid-October. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate made an in-person appearance to present Lone Tree teacher Mick Dickinson with the Carrie Chapman Catt Award. The recognition is for extraordinary work in the field of voter registration. Dickinson worked with the senior population of the city to get more than 97% of eligible voters registered. The award is named after the suffragette who grew up in Charles City and was an integral part of the passage of the 19th Amendment for women’s suffrage in 1920.
