The Lone Tree football team saw their season come to an end on Friday at the hands of top five ranked Montezuma on the road in the second round of the 8-man playoffs 54-14. Lone Tree hung in the game early, trailing 14-8 after one quarter but the Braves would tack on two more touchdowns in the second to take a 28-8 lead into the half and explode for 26 in the third quarter to put the game away. The Lions found the end zone one more time in the fourth quarter. The Braves outgained the Lions 338 to 321. Montezuma had the advantage through the air at 252 to 101 while Lone Tree outrushed the Braves 221-86. Cade Shield led Lone Tree at 9 of 18 through the air for 79 yards and two interceptions. Alex Viner led the Lion ground game with 10 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown. Levi Sotzen had the other scoring run for Lone Tree. This week, Lone Tree head coach Aaron Bohr talked about what decided the contest. “Through a couple of quarters I thought we did a really good job, but at the end of the day, they got the win. We stuck to our gameplan, but they had too many playmakers for us. We had a couple of drives where we were able to get down in their territory and in the red zone, but things would stall due to them making a good play. We just weren’t able to put it together on the night. They had a couple of long touchdowns. We did force them to punt a few times, which is pretty awesome because they had only punted a handful of times all year. That was the name of the game. I’m proud of our guys performance, I thought they fought like crazy. We just got beat by a better team.”

With the loss, the Lions end their season at 4-4.
