The road to the dome officially starts tonight for the Washington football team when they open their class 3A playoff run with a second round bout against Keokuk.

After a bye in the first round, it has been two weeks since we have seen the Demons on the gridiron after capping off a district title and perfect 7-0 regular season with a win over these same Chiefs. Washington is looking for similar success after having little trouble in a 62-8 victory in week seven. The vertical passing game was on display in that one with Trashaun Willis completing seven of 12 throws for 261 yards and three touchdowns to Bryan Martin, Lucas Kroll, and Spencer Sotelo. The Demon run defense has been nasty, as opponents have not finished a game with positive rushing yards since September 18th when Washington faced Mount Pleasant in week four.

Keokuk comes into the night 4-3 and advanced after a 55-8 win over Fairfield last week. The team starts and stops with their four-year quarterback Corey Skinner. The senior has thrown for 839 yards and 11 touchdowns while also racking up 1,025 yards on the ground with another 12 scores.

Demon Head Coach James Harris tells KCII Sports his team is totally locked into playoff mode. “We have prepared for Keokuk for the last three weeks so we know a lot about them. It would be easy to think since we beat them up last time that we could afford to take it easy this time, but our guys aren’t doing that. Our guys are locked in and focused. We have a mission to go deep into the playoffs.”

The playoff action begins at 7 p.m. tonight at Case Field and listen to the game on FM 106.1 KCII starting at 6:30 p.m. Our coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. with the KCII Football Friday Preview that analyzes all games in Southeast Iowa.
