Kalona’s fall cleanup day will give residents a way to dispose of any unwanted items this weekend. This free service will be open to Kalona residents only. TVs, computer monitors, appliances, oil, lightbulbs, and other electronics will not be accepted. Those items can be recycled through the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center. The city asks residents to unload their items without city assistance due to the continued spread of COVID-19. Accepted items can be disposed of at the Kalona City Shop at 711 A Avenue from 9 a.m. till noon on Saturday. A full list of accepted and unaccepted items include:

  • Metal cans, foil, pie pans
  • Scrap Metal
  • Holiday Lights
  • Bicycles
  • Small Camping Grills
  • Mattresses/Box Springs
  • Furniture

  • Yard Waste
  • Cardboard
  • Computer Monitors
  • TV’s
  • Tires
  • Appliances –Washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, refrigerators, lawn mowers, dehumidifiers, ovens, grills (charcoal/gas)
  • Roofing Shingles
  • Building materials
  • Railroad ties or telephone poles
  • Asbestos
  • Lightbulbs
  • Hazardous Material
  • Oil
  • Lead acid batteries
