The first reading to increase the compensation for Washington’s mayor and council members was approved at the recent Washington City Council meeting. Mayor Jaron Rosien explained the changes won’t take place until after the next city council election, “And moving the mayor’s salary from $12,000 a year to $18,000 per year for 2022.”

The compensation for council members will move up to $75 per official council meeting and $40 for board meetings they attend as an official representative of the council. The ordinance will have to pass two more readings before being adopted.
