If there is one game fans of Southeast Iowa football should have a keen eye on this week, it’s the showdown in Sigourney tonight. The Cobras welcome Mediapolis to town for week six to decide the district crown for the second straight season.

When these two teams met up in week nine last year the Bulldogs bullied their way to a 28-6 victory that propelled them to the playoffs and sent the Cobras packing. While a postseason berth is not part of the equation in 2020, Head Coach Jared Jensen knows his team wants this one. “They really took it to us last year and our guys were saying it is time for redemption. Not really revenge, but redemption and returning the favor. Having said that, with everything on the line we can’t get too wound up to a point that it will hurt us. We just have to keep playing our football, stay focused, and have an exceptional game.”

S-K is a perfect 5-0 and has outscored their opponents 213-48. The defense has produced two shutouts including a 49-0 drubbing over Pekin in the Backyard Brawl last week. Colton Clarahan leads that side of the ball with 25 tackles and Brady Duwa has three interceptions. The team averages over 250 rushing yards a game including Sam Sieren with 466 on the season and nine touchdowns. In last year’s meeting, the Cobras were held to just 94 yards of total offense.

The Bulldogs are 4-1 with their only loss coming to Class 2A West Liberty. Mediapolis runs the rock efficiently as well, with 1,177 rushing yards thus far including 338 from Anthony Isley.

The district matchup begins at 7 p.m. tonight in Sigourney.
