Area cross country teams will flock to Mount Pleasant High School tonight for a meet.

Washington, Lone Tree, WACO, and Winfield-Mt. Union will all be represented at the course by the school. The Demons will look to build off their performance in Fort Madison on Thursday when Lance Sobaski won the boys’ race and the girls finished runner-up as a team. Taylor Bartholomew and Hannah Rees each had a top 10 finish for the Orange and Black. WMU boys nabbed third at that meet with Dane Sweezer in ninth and Avery Maeder was 13th on the girls’ side.

WACO Head Coach Caylon Devaul tells KCII Sports this meet in Mount Pleasant is always a good measuring stick. “There is going to be some bigger schools there and our kids really like this course. There are not a lot of hills at this meet. They separate big and small classes, but you still race with them so that’s good to compete against some quality runners. I think our kids will be fired up and ready for this one.”

The first race gets underway at 4:30 p.m. this evening in Mount Pleasant.
