Iowa’s unemployment rate dropped from 6.8% in July to 6% in August, according to Iowa Workforce Development. Last month there were 110,300 people unemployed. In August of 2019, the unemployment rate in Iowa was 2.8% with 48,100 people out of work.

According to IWD, in the week ending September 12th Iowa’s continuing weekly unemployment claims tallied 65,653 people, a decrease of about 5,300 from the previous week. The unemployment insurance benefit payments were nearly $18.4 million for the week ending September 12th.

Iowa’s August unemployment rate of 6% was lower than the national rate of 8.4%.
