Excitement around football is starting to pick up in Winfield, as the Wolves won their second straight on Friday by downing Iowa Valley 28-12 on homecoming.

If there is anything that Cam Buffington can’t do, it doesn’t involve skills on a football field. The freshman phenom had another eye-popping performance in week four by rushing for 195 yards on 16 carries and had all four touchdowns for the Wolves. The 6’2’’ 185 pound back also tied for a team-high with 9.5 tackles defensively and had four punts that averaged 39 yards. He scored from 35 and 22 yards out in the first half to give the Wolves a 14-0 lead at the break and added scores from 52 and 27 yards in the third to put the game to bed. Jack Jennings also had 9.5 tackles for a defense that picked off the Tigers three times including Noah Sparrow with two and Chance Malone with one.

Head Coach Scott McCarty knows this was a big one for the program. “It has been some time since we won a homecoming game so the mood has definitely shifted for the kids and community. We were talking as coaches and we really hope this was a game that makes the kids believe we have a good team. We have the tools and personnel where we can make some noise.”

The Wolves move to 3-1 and that matches their win total from the last four years combined. They return to the gridiron Friday at New London (3-1).
