After three weeks of on-site learning, Hillcrest Academy has seen students diligently following COVID-19 guidelines and low numbers of positive cases. According to their data, the district has seen two positive COVID-19 cases among students and staff, and three students and staff are in quarantine due to coming in contact with a positive COVID-19 case. Principal Dwight Gingerich says he is proud of everyone stepping up and doing their part to limit the spread of COVID-19, “Overall, I think it’s all about being mindful, being aware of how we are with each other. Being six feet apart, it’s not how we naturally tick. It’s a lot of little things that we’re having to do to make it a little bit different, but I feel like everybody is working at it and with some reminders, I feel like it’s going well.” The district has made changes to their athletic events, capping attendance at 50% capacity and giving athletes, coaches, and staff a limited number of tickets to give to family members for attendance to a game. Gingerich says more information about Homecoming and the Alumni Parents Weekend activities will be released later this month.
