A two-vehicle car wreck north of Wellman sent one individual to the University of Iowa Hospital Wednesday afternoon. According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, at 1:08 p.m. 56-year-old Michael Berstler of Marengo was driving eastbound on 320th Street toward 540th Avenue when a car southbound on Johnson-Iowa Road struck Berstler’s driver-side door. The driver of the second car was 41-year-old Cody Hawkins of Wellman. The Washington County Communications Office was notified that one individual was trapped due to the wreck. Both drivers were outside of their vehicles when Wellmen crews arrived. One person was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by Johnson County EMS. There were no citations issued to either driver. Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County EMS, Wellman QRS, Wellman Fire Department, and Wellman Rescue assisted at the scene.
