A new sweepstakes scam has surfaced in Henry County. The Mount Pleasant Police Department received a complaint of a physical letter being sent to a resident with a fake check attached. The check has an insurance company listed as well as a bank in another state. These scams will have individuals buy hundreds of dollars in gift cards in order to receive the sweepstakes money and ask for personal information over the phone or in an email. The police department warns to never give out personal information to these scams and inform local law enforcement about these scams taking place.
