As the number of COVID-19 cases have increased in recent weeks so have the number of hospitalized patients. As of Thursday, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa had 323 hospitalized patients with 51 people admitted in the previous 24 hours and 88 people were in intensive care.

Iowa had a low point over the summer in terms of hospitalized COVID-19 patients at nearly a third of the current numbers with 118 people hospitalized on June 27th with 36 in intensive care. As of Thursday, Iowa has had 66,893 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 48,526 recovered, and 1,134 people have died. Washington County has had an increase of 14 cases since Monday with 350 confirmed cases and 11 deaths as of Thursday. Of the 350 cases, 300 have recovered so far.

Area 14-day positivity rates by county from most to least as of Thursday are Johnson County at 24.5%, Henry County at 11.6%, Keokuk County at 11%, Louisa County at 5.2%, Jefferson County at 5.1%, Washington County at 4.5%, and Iowa County at 3.2%.
