We continue our look back at some of the top sports stories of the 2010s decade in Southeast Iowa and today we relive some nostalgic moments at Washington High School from the year 2011.

It was a memorable summer for Washington baseball fans nine years ago, as they enjoyed a 30-win season and a trip to the state tournament in Des Moines. The Demons were barely edged by Mount Pleasant for a Southeast Conference regular season title, but got their sweet revenge on the Panthers in the playoffs by beating them 5-4 in the first round. That momentum carried them to a 7-1 win over Fort Madison in the district semis and a resounding 16-0 victory over Centerville to send them to Principal Park. They cruised past ADM 8-4 in the quarterfinals before falling to Harlan 8-2. The Demons finished the season 31-8 and returned to state the following year. Josh Moore was a top player hitting .425 with 30 RBI and also produced a 1.35 ERA in 52 innings on the hill.

The Demon boys’ golf team also had a successful year by placing second at the state tournament. Senior Joseph Harris was one-stroke shy of a title with a two-game score of 149 to finish in a tie for fourth. Alex Thode was not far behind with a 156. Golf and baseball helped Washington in the Des Moines Register All-Sports Rankings for the 2010-2011 school year where they ranked 16th among medium enrollment schools.

Check back in tomorrow when we take a look at a few Washington stories from the year 2012.
