The Columbus Community School District will welcome back students and staff to school as they begin the year fully on-site. Beginning August 24, an on-site learning model will be used with COVID-19-related guidelines in place for students and staff to follow. While not required all day, face coverings will be necessary when social distancing cannot be achieved, including in classrooms and on buses. Students in all grade levels will be provided opportunities to take classes for music, art, band, and PE. Teachers and staff will receive trauma-sensitive training in order to identify and respond to symptoms of trauma in staff and students. Survey results from families will be used to gauge the social, emotional, and behavioral health needs of students, families, and staff. The district has also created separate nurse rooms for non-COVID-19 situations and to isolate those who show symptoms of COVID-19. In addition, families will be able to choose a fully online option for their students if the on-site model does not suit their needs. School administration will continue to monitor the health situation in Louisa County to make the best decision for student and staff health and safety.
