KCII continues our look back at some of the top stories from the decade for area schools and today we relive the year 2011.

After going 5-5 the previous fall, the Lone Tree football team made a big leap in 2011 going 10-2 overall and making the state quarterfinals. They raced out to a 6-0 start and ran all over their opponents with no game being closer than 26 points. Lisbon was the only roadblock for Lone Tree falling to them twice including a 20-7 loss in the quarterfinals. The Lions defeated Iowa Valley 49-7 in the first round and BGM 14-13 in the second to advance. The team was an offensive juggernaut averaging 41 points a night with dual-threat quarterback Gabe Lorack doing much of the damage. He threw for 828 yards and added 764 on the ground to account for 26 touchdowns on the season.

A couple area track athletes found success at the Blue Oval in Des Moines with a pair of second place finishes. Sigourney’s JC Abrahamson finished runner-up in the high jump with a leap of 6’8’’ as a junior and Winfield-Mt. Union’s Wes Atkinson placed second in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 15.17 seconds.

Check back in tomorrow when we take a look at a few stories from 2012.
