sigourney-3

The Sigourney softball team saw their season come to an end in the regional semifinal round of the playoffs in class 1A against No. 4 Lynnville-Sully 15-14. The offensive fireworks started early, with the Savages plating three runs in the top of the first to jump out to an early lead. The Hawks answered that with five in the home half, two in the third and one more in the fourth to build an 8-3 advantage. Sigourney erased that in the top of the fifth with five of their own to tie the game again at eight, and then scored five more times in the top of the sixth to go up 13-8. Lynnville once again had the answer, pushing five across the plate in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at lucky 13. The score would stay that way through regulation until the 11th when Sigourney struck for a single run to go up 14-13. The Savages, just three outs away from the regional final, couldn’t hold that lead as the top five Hawks rallied for one in the bottom of the frame to force a 12th, and won it in the bottom of that inning on a walkoff.

Sigourney was led by Megan Stuhr at four for six at the plate with two RBI. Kaylee Weber drove in five runs on three hits, including a homer. Dani Richards had four RBI, belting a grand slam. Carly Goodwin threw 10 innings in the loss, giving up 15 hits and 10 runs. With the loss, Sigourney wraps up the season with a 15-5 overall record. The Savages will say goodbye to seniors Richards and Stuhr.
