The Mid-Prairie baseball and softball teams hit the road to start the week when they travel to West Liberty Monday. The Mid-Prairie baseball team enters the night at 6-2 overall and red hot after going 4-0 last week. Their last victory was a 12-2 mercy rule win at Cascade Friday. For the year the Hawks are hitting .324, led by Aidan Rath at .591 with 13 hits, eight runs scored and 14RBI. On the mound, Mid-Prairie had a 3.00 team ERA, led by Keegan Gingerich and Brad Tornow each without a run allowed so far this season. Gingerich has a 2-0 record, Tornow is 1-0.

West Liberty is 4-3 on the year, winners of back to back games over Camanche and Louisa-Muscatine. The Comets are hitting .219 as a team, led by Talen Dengler with a .381 average. The Comets have a 4.14 team ERA with Caleb Wulf at 2-1 on the year with a 1.26ERA in 16 innings. The Golden Hawks swept the Comets in a doubleheader last year by 11-1 and 7-5 scores.

The Mid-Prairie softball team comes into the night looking for their first win of the season. Last time out they fell to Cascade on Friday. For the year, the Golden Hawks are hitting .087 as a team, led by Lanie Bowlin, Jaselyn Robertson and Rylee Vercande each at .200 on the year. In the circle the Hawks have a team ERA of 5.38, led by Myah Lugar at 3.65. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Mallory McArtor talked about what she has seen from her team recently. “Our bats have come alive more recently, we have been more aggressive at the plate but we still need to sure up our pitching and defense.”

West Liberty enters tonight with an overall record of 7-1. They beat Camanche on Friday 4-1. The Comets are currently ranked No. 8 in class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Athletic Union. On the year West Liberty is hitting .349 as a team, led by Haylee Lehman with a .565 average, 13 hits, and 10 driven in. In the circle the Comets have a 1.26 ERA led by Sailor Hall at 0.64 across 11 innings with a 2-0 record. The Comets have won eight in a row in this series including a 5-2 and 12-2 sweep last year. Mid-Prairie last beat West Liberty in 2015.
