Today we start up our top 10 best sports stories countdown for area schools from the 2019-2020 academic year and number 10 takes us to the gridiron for a team with rich history.

Sigourney-Keota enjoyed another strong season finishing 8-1 and just missing out on the playoffs after a 28-6 defeat to Mediapolis in week nine. The Cobras were mowing down their opponents in the first eight games outscoring them by 41.5 points per contest. The offense put up video-game-like numbers with their 51 rushing touchdowns on the year ranking third in class 1A including JD Stout’s 23 as fourth individually. The offense tallied 42 points a night and compiled a remarkable 3,499 yards rushing including 8.8 yards per rush. The defense got the job done too, holding four opponents to single digits and Cade Molyneux led the way with 30.5 tackles.

Three Cobras were chosen as all-state selections by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association with Brady Duwa named to the first team and Stout and Dawson Baumert on the second team.

Check back in tomorrow for number nine on our countdown when we take a look at a memorable WACO volleyball season.
