The third best sports story for Washington from the 2019-2020 academic year in our top 10 countdown takes us to the cross country course when a sophomore punched his ticket to state.

On October 24th the Demons traveled to Solon for a Class 3A State Qualifier and Lance Sobaski cracked the top 15 by placing 13th in 17:19. The sophomore came on strong late in the year and qualified for state by six seconds, as the 16th place individual clocked in at 17:25. In his first appearance at Fort Dodge, Sobaski placed 95th in the state out of 130 runners with a time of 17:48.9.

Sobaski told KCII Sports what it was like running on the biggest stage. “It was an amazing race and I was pleased with the outcome. There is nothing like it in the world at state running with tunnels of people always around you screaming your name. It was a blast.”

This marked the fourth straight year a Demon has been represented at the state cross country meet. Check back in tomorrow for number two on our countdown when we look back on a memorable night for the Demon boys basketball team.
