The sixth best sports story in our Top 10 Countdown for Washington from the 2019-2020 academic year takes us to the volleyball court.

Triumphing over the Trojans of Fairfield has proved to be a tough code to crack for the Washington volleyball team throughout the 21st century. Coming into the 2019 season, the Trojans defeated the Demons in every rivalry bout dating back to 2013 and only surrendered one set during that timeframe. That was until September 10th, 2019 happened. In front of a home crowd at Washington High School, the Demons looked like the superior team en route to a four set victory with scores of 25-22, 25-19, 20-25, and 25-23. Addison Six left her mark on the conference matchup finishing with 19 kills on 31 attacks and recorded 21 digs. Olivia Pacha added 10 kills, Kinsey Duwa had 26 assists, and Alexa Mitchell was successful on all 17-serve attempts.

Six told KCII Sports what it felt like to down their rival. “We started off strong in the first set and after that I knew it was going to be a good night. This one is special because it has been a long time since Washington beat Fairfield. I don’t remember the last time we beat them in any sport growing up so this one felt good.”

The win opened the floodgates against Fairfield, as the Demons later defeated them in the Southeast Conference tournament as well. Washington finished 11-23 overall and fifth in the league.

Check back in Monday for number five on our Demon countdown when we look at a thrilling stretch for basketball.
