Help is available for Iowans struggling to pay energy bills. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government has increased funding to many programs, including the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also called LIHEAP. The application period for heating assistance has been extended to May 31st. Also, the Iowa Utilities Board is urging all utilities to refrain from service shutoffs due to COVID-19. Also, the Hometown Care Energy Fund can help income-qualified Alliant Energy customers. That fund can assist with heating or cooling costs. To get more information on that program call 211.
