Over 150 pigs were weighed in by Washington County 4-H members Saturday, but they did it in a new way. On Thursday, all spring weigh-ins were cancelled due to COVID-19. However, Washington County met the challenge and weighed in their production swine projects by using Facebook video calls. The calls allowed for accurate and honest data while still following the important safety rules of social distancing due to COVID-19. Twenty 4-H members weighed in 137 gilts and barrows for the production classes and 43 barrows for the single source commercial swine class. Superintendents Bruce Kauffman and Ryan Gerot along with fair board member Dean Sieren assisted with the weigh-in. Sieren Swine Farms of Keota coordinates the pigs for the single source swine class. The Washington County Fair will be held July 19-24.
