Sometimes superlatives and hyperbole are the only accurate ways to describe a performance. JD Stout has put together a prolific career in Keota Eagle purple and gold. He added his name to another spot in the Eagle record books on Tuesday, posting 45 points, a total unmatched in school history, during an 85-66 win over BGM in the district semifinals. Stout’s total breaks the previous school record of 42 points from 1991 set by Bill Kindred. The Eagles ran laps around the Bears, scoring 70 points in the first three quarters of the game, Keota led 24-12 after one, 46-33 at half and 70-45 after three. This week, Keota head coach Dan Stout broke down the night for JD and the team. “From the opening tip he was determined to get to the hole. We won the opening tip, he got an easy basket. A couple of early steals led to more quick baskets. That opened up things for him and his teammates to shoot from the outside. We made BGM change their entire defensive gameplan. Putting up 85 points was huge for us and now we are moving on.”

Stout, a McDonald’s High School All-American nominee, was an amazing 17 of 23 from the floor, hit six threes, was five of seven at the line and had four steals. Luke Hammen also hit double figures with 17 points and Carson Sprouse had 13. Keota shot 58% as a team in the win. The Eagles advance to Thursday’s district championship game at Williamsburg where they will face No. 6 Montezuma. The Braves beat the Eagles 76-68 in Keota earlier this season.
