Two wins separate the Highland boys basketball team from a state tournament bid. The Huskies have an opportunity to check off one of those wins tonight when they travel to Iowa City Liberty to face Springville in a Class 1A District 7 Championship Game.

It’s a quick turnaround for these squads, as Highland is fresh off of a 72-68 victory over North Cedar on Tuesday in Riverside and Springville downed Lone Tree 71-62.  The defensive minded Huskies that give up just 47 points a game will be tested against a high-flying Oriole offense that tallies 71 points a night. Springville is 18-5 and finished second in the Tri-Rivers West Division. They have four players that average double-digit scoring led by Alex Koppes with 19.6 points a contest including shooting 43% from long range. Highland is 20-4 and placed second in the SEISC North. The offense runs through Zack Lasek down low with 17.2 points and 10 rebounds a game. Huskie head coach Bill Zywiec knows his team needs to play well to knock off the Orioles. “Springville is a really good team that is fundamentally sound. They have five guards out there and run a diamond press extremely well. We have to be discipline by handling their pressure and we have to recognize where the shooters are at the other end.”

The chance to keep the playoff journey alive gets started at 7 p.m. tonight in North Liberty. Listen to all of the action on FM 106.1 KCII.
