Sharing is caring, but sharing a Southeast Conference title is not exactly what the Washington boys’ basketball team is caring about. They have a chance to capture their first outright conference title in 14 years when they welcome Keokuk for senior night this evening to close the regular season in a girl/boy basketball doubleheader.

The Demons clinched a share of the conference crown after the Chiefs fell to Burlington for the second time on Tuesday 62-41 to drop to 7-2 in the league. Washington is 8-1 in conference to go along with a 13-6 overall mark, but they look for revenge after falling to Keokuk 59-57 last month. To stand a lone a top of the standings, Washington will need to slow down Anthony Portratz and his 16.4 points a game. Demon head coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports tonight will have a playoff feel to it. “It will be a great atmosphere for senior night. We have great seniors and it will be their last time playing on their home floor. We are confident that we will put on a good showing and hopefully get a W.”

The Washington girls look to close the conference slate at .500, as they are 4-5 in the league and 11-8 overall. The Chiefs (16-3) had the upper hand in the first meeting 43-30 and a big reason why was Abby Wolter’s 17 points. The Demons look to snap their three-game losing skid and Keokuk’s eight-game win streak.

The girls’ game gets underway at 6:15 p.m. in Washington with the boys to follow and listen to the doubleheader on FM 106.1 KCII. Senior night festivities will be held in between varsity contests.
