A slow start did not stop the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team from getting a season sweep over Lone Tree on Tuesday night in a KCII area matchup.

The Lions were the aggressor early in front of a home crowd, as they led 9-5 after one. The Wolves started to come to life and had a slight 15-14 advantage at the break, 30-25 at the end of three, and hung on for a 46-38 victory. WMU shot just 25% from the floor, but made 11 more free throws than the Lions to finish 22 of 33 on the night. Keetyn Townsley led the Wolves with 12 points, five boards, and four steals while Bradie Buffington was a defensive force with six blocks. Holley Johnson kept the Lions around with 13 points.

WMU improves to 11-9 and they close out the regular season tomorrow against Louisa-Muscatine. Lone Tree is 10-9 and they travel to Columbus the same day.
