With the purchase of approximately 43 acres the City of Washington’s space for housing is growing. At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, the purchase agreement with the Bell family for land was unanimously approved. Mayor Jaron Rosien shared his excitement, “Brendan (DeLong) and I can both say for the number of years that we’ve served, and the many things that we’ve seen and that we’ve seen repetition from, this is not a repetition item. This is exciting. This is groundbreaking. This is new, and great. Super work!”

The purchase agreement has the city pay $1,000 down and $19,500 per acre sale price at closing April 1, 2020. The land is for future residential development. The land is south of the Washington County Fairgrounds along Highway 1. City Administrator Brent Hinson said it is a long-term investment for Washington and development could begin as early as next year.
